According to Bob Beckel, the supreme court is currently made up of nothing but Italian-American conservatives. Hmmm. Let’s look at the supreme court. Samuel Anthony Alito, Jr., Italian-American, Stephen Gerald Breyer - Jewish-American, John G. Roberts, Jr. - Czechoslovakian-American, John Paul Stevens (not sure of nationality but with a name like Stevens, doubt it is Italian-American), Antonin Scalia - Italian-American, Anthony Kennedy - Irish-American, David Hackett Souter - American, Clarence Thomas - African-American, Ruth Bader Ginsburg - Jewish-American.
Okay, I count 2. Two out of nine. Hardly “full of.” Currently, there are five members of the supreme court who lean conservatively and three who lean liberally, and one who is in the middle more or less. Of course, this is in their personal lives. In reality, justices are supposed to uphold the law. They are not supposed to write the law. They are not supposed to bring their views to the law. They are supposed to interpret the law so more or less whether they are conservative or liberal really should not enter into their judicial decisions.
So, why the dump on Italian-Americans Bob? I am insulted. Having a Sicilian lineage, I have been insulted for years as every time a Sicilian is portrayed on televison or in the movies, they are only associated with the mafia. Just lovely. When all the Bob Beckel’s of the world get it that you just don’t get to go around insulting some races and nationalities and not others, perhaps then the world will begin to be a better place.
