Out of 3,188 franchise Chrysler dealerships across the United States, 782 are to be shut down by June 9th. This will equate to around 38,000 jobs.
Chrysler thinks that by consolidating its dealerships that they will be able to offer better customer service. How on earth is that going to happen? Sure you could have a better service department within that consolidated dealership; however, there will be a lot less of them. Could you imagine having to travel 50 miles to get your car serviced?
The consumer loses by the number of dealership closures because with less competition, Chrysler dealerships will be less likely to give you that great deal because there is not another dealership around.
The worst part of all of this is that all of these dealerships are franchised. They are all their own small businesses that took the huge risks by opening the dealerships and running them in good times and bad. It is completely unfair what Chrysler is doing to these dealerships. This is simply a marketing strategy for Chrysler. Those dealerships purchase their own cars and pay their own expenses. Now they are forced to try to sell the inventory that “they” purchased to their competition.
This is what is really driving me completely nuts and why I will NEVER by a Chrysler in the future. They are only giving the dealerships until June 9th. WTF is up with that? Why can’t Chrysler give these “franchised” dealerships at least 4-6 months to sell off their inventory? This is simply not right.
